Advice
Centre
Here at Fastrack,
we endeavour to do everything we can to help people looking for work.
Here is a few pointers on CV writing and interview techniques. We hope
you find them useful and wish you the very best of luck in you job search.
CV Writing
Keep it simple
• You may wish to make a couple of different versions to use for
different jobs you are applying for, whilst making sure
all information is accurate and can be qualified.
Make it easy to read
• When a company has a number of CVs to look through, many people
will not always take the time to read thoroughly. Ensure
key points and skills are kept to the first page.
Always keep the order universal
• If you use a certain format for a section of your CV, make sure
you carry this theme all the way through.
Ensure your contact details
are easy to find
• Obvious we know, but it always helps if a company can find your
number to call you!
If you can, always include
a personal profile
• Work experience will only tell someone what you have done before,
not what you can do for the future.
Interview
Techniques
Always be
prepared
• Make sure you read the job spec fully and understand exactly what
it is you are applying for.
Find out as
much as you can about the company
• The internet is the most obvious source. Find out what products
or services they offer and how they work.
Keep your
answers to the point
• It is easy to try and fill silent gaps with general chat, but
this is not always needed.
Prepare questions
and possible answers
• If there is anything about the job or company you are unsure of,
just ask (within reason!). At the same time, before an interview, there
may be some obvious questions you think you will be asked, so take the
time to prepare some suitable and direct answers.
Be aware of
dress code
• Dress comfortably, yet appropriately, for the position and company.
Always be
honest with yourself and the company
• If you do not show your true personality in an interview, you
not be happy in the job.
